Rubén Legazpi (Spain) is a Spanish professional three-cushion player from Madrid and, for years, the country’s strongest competitor after Dani Sánchez. A seasoned, tactical presence on the UMB circuit, he reached the very top of the sport as the 2022 World Championship runner-up.
Career highlights
- UMB World Three-Cushion Championship runner-up (2022, Donghae) — losing the final to Tayfun Taşdemir
- CEB European Three-Cushion Champion (2003)
- Multiple-time Spanish National Three-Cushion Champion
- Long-time member of the Spain national team
- A fixture of the UMB World Cup circuit for years as Spain’s number two behind Dani Sánchez
Playing style
Legazpi is an experienced, patient competitor in the Spanish school tradition — a positional player who builds the point rather than chasing it. Like his compatriot Dani Sánchez, he leans on the Diamond System for the long table-length routes and on touch and tactical defence for the rest, rarely beating himself in a tight match.
Signature strengths
- Positional control — leaving the next shot easy rather than forcing the spectacular one
- Patient, tactical match management that wears down an opponent’s rhythm
- System-precise long around-the-table routes in the Spanish-school mould
Legacy
For years the second pillar of Spanish three-cushion behind Dani Sánchez, Legazpi crowned a steady career by reaching the 2022 World final, where he came up against the in-form Tayfun Taşdemir. Alongside contemporaries such as Marco Zanetti, he kept Spain among the established European powers of the modern game.
